A SHORT BUT BUSY WEEK

Even though we have had just a couple of days back at school this week,
we have sure packed a lot into it.

We have moved onto our second rotation for Inquiry.
Below are a couple of photos of the children filling in think charts to help them decide if the games are suitable for our playground.

In Maths, Mrs Lunn has been busy testing us on our Addition and Multiplication strategies.
With Miss G, we have been busy practising skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In our independent learning time Zoha was practising her fractions...

The boys took this photo of their HUGE circle that they made using the Number Tower cups...
Great team work guys!

JOURNALS ONLINE

Hi Parents and Caregivers

We have added a new page to our blog called Readers Online.  This page is designed for those children reading journals.  We have added some digital copies of stories for them to read at home. New stories will be added from time to time for your child's enjoyment.

Please click this link to see the stories:  http://piako2.blogspot.co.nz/p/online-readers.html

PLAYGROUND GAMES

We continued the Explore part of our inquiry.  Today Mrs Lunn took her group out to practice some of the games we thought would be suitable to have in our playground.

We tried Target Throwing...

We tried Elastics (like Mrs Lunn used to play when she was little!)...

We learnt Four Square (we got some big kids to show us how it is done)...

Then we came back into class and completed an organiser to see we thought the games were suitable to have in our playground.

We are so clever, we were able to complete the organisers ALL BY OURSELVES!

MULTIPLICATION IN MATHS

This week some of us have been learning about multiplication.  We are reading 3 x 2 and 3 lots of 2.
Today we were putting teddies into houses and working out how many we had altogether.
Mrs Lunn taught us to skip count the bears
(we need to remember we can only skip count set that are EQUAL!)

You can help us at home by getting us to skip count in 2s, 5s, and 10s.
If we get flash at that, we could try skip counting in 3s and 4s!!!

Here is a photo of one group working with Mrs Lunn to learn multiplication.

The kids enjoyed this activity so much that they went and played it by themselves!
Clever cookies.

Mrs Lunn also held a Fractions workshop today.
Here are some kids playing Fractions Bingo.

This a song we watch and sing along to, to learn about Fractions.
Please get us to sing it to you...

OUR NEW CANDYLANDERS

On Friday the teachers awarded Miya, Kalas, Aeva and Mikayla with a Candyland Press Pass.

FUN DAY FRIDAY

We had a great day today.
Some of us made playdough with Mrs Ruawai.  It was a blast.
Mrs Lunn's son Hamish came and helped us too!
Some of the kids helped to clean up the dishes.

We made our Leprechaun traps today too.
You should have seen our creative mess!
It took us AGES to clean up :-)

ZIRKA CIRCUS

Yesterday we had three of the performers from the Zirka Circus come and perform for us.

They were AMAZING!

CHLOE VISITS CONNER

Lucky Chloe had a play on the swings at Connor's house when she visited for the night!
Thanks Connor for a lovely time!

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!

You'll never believe what happened today!

A leprechaun came and caused mischief in our classroom!

He left a whole lot of clues that lead us on a scavenger hunt around the school.

At the end of the scavenger hunt we had a party for Mrs Ruawai's Birthday.

We hope you had a great day.
