Play House Production - Fairest of them all

Play House Productions - Fairest of Them All

Wednesday 2nd November

11:30am in the school hall

This is a wonderful opportunity to see a professional group

of actors who have put together a traveling play.

It is so important that our students get an opportunity to

develop passions and interests in all fields and the ARTS is

as vital as all others. This show should inspire and

encourage our students in the area of drama.

The play: The Fairest of Them All, has great reviews and has

been traveling the country.

The cost will be $5 per child or $10 for 2 or more children.

Your money can either be paid in the sports box at the office

in an envelope or by internet banking with the word PLAY

and last name as a reference.

OUR WRITING TENT!

The teachers have moved a few things in the Rainbow Room around.   Our favourite improvement is the Writing Tent.   We are allowed in here to do our work but there's one condition ... it's a quiet zone so we need to work quietly in here.   We love it!

WEEK TWOS TOP TEN - ENJOY!

TECH THURSDAY

Today we received a letter from the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  Their bridge got washed away in a flood last week and they need our help to build a new one.  They certainly asked the right people ... we were hooked!

First we watched the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, just to refresh our memories ...

Here's the Criteria we had to meet:

·        Your bridge need to be able to hold us (we weigh about the same as three maths teddies)
·        It must be able to stand up by itself
·        It must be creative (we love creative things)
·        It must be able to stretch over our river which is 30cm wide (you might need your teacher to show you how wide that it)

Next we WONDERED what we could do to help the Billy Goats Gruff.  So we decided to complete a brainstorm sheet...

After that we decided we needed to EXPLORE how bridges are built so we watched You Tube clips on which bridges are the strongest.

We wrote notes on our EXPLORE sheet.

We used these ideas when we came up with our plan...

Now it was time to ACT.
We worked together to make some amazing bridges for the Billy Goats...

We had to test that our bridge was strong enough to hold 3 Maths Teddies
(that how much the Goats weigh)
Sean and Alex's group, tested their bridge.  It was hold enough to hole Sean!

Once or bridges were finished we had to complete a REFLECT sheet....

And we got to share our bridges with our friends.
We were able to REFLECT on whose bridge met the Billy Goats Gruff Success Criteria...

We had great fun today and we are super pleased we were able to help the Three BIlly Goats Gruff.

GREATER THAN AND LESS THAN!

Today we learnt about Greater Than and Less Than.  We sang this catchy song to help us learn which way the sign goes.

You can help us at home by writing down two numbers and we have to put the correct maths symbol in.

OUR ASSEMBLY

Today we received a letter from our teachers.  They have asked us to organise, prepare and present our Piako Rua Assembly.  We are so excited!

In our homerooms we brainstormed all our ideas about Assembly.  Our teachers recorded our thinking.  They were blown away with the ideas we had:

  • Lucy suggested we could have workshops for children wanting to present different items or help get different things ready (great idea Lucy)
  • Molly suggested that the children who speak would need to be good readers to read the script
  • Luca suggested we practise in Inquiry time
  • Ethan said the people that speak would need to be able to speak clearly
  • Sophie B suggested we bring one dress up item from home like we do each week at Piako 2 Whanau
We are so pleased that we get to share OUR learning with you at Assembly.  We've got until week 4 to be organised!  We've got a lot to do so we better start straight away!
