THE CLEAN UP MACHINE CHALLENGE!

Today the girls had a great challenge for us.
They had noticed that our room is always messy so they thought we could come up with an idea for a machine to clean it up.

We are the right people for the job!
Solving problems is what we do!

THE GREAT SUNHAT CHALLENGE

Today the girls had a great challenge for us.

We keep forgetting our sunhats and we could get sun burnt so they challenged us to create a sunhat.
They had very strict criteria we had to fulfill.

Alex watched a youtube tutorial on how to make a paper sunhat.
Here he is in the process of making it - wait until you see the finished product!

Here are a few more of our hats...

Miya and Ella P's hat was certainly colourful and very creative!

We are getting so good at problem solving, negotiating and working together.  Our teachers are so proud of us.

We also took time at the end of our session to REFLECT  on our sunhats.  Our teachers have noticed how honest we are when we are assessing out creations against the success criteria.

THE GIRAFFES 2 TECH CHALLENGE!

Today the Giraffes 2 Reading group, asked if they could come up with the challenge for Tech Thursday.

After reading a journal article about making shoes, the kids decided that that would be a great idea for Tech Thursday!

Zak, Katie, Aaron, Lucy, Dylan, Kalas and Riley H made the slideshow and came up with the success criteria.

They even introduced the Challenge to the class today...

First we had to brainstorm...

We came up with some amazing ideas...

Sophie M and Alexa made some pretty improvements to Mrs Lunn's shoes...

Savannah S made shoes that transform from Summer shoes to Winter shoes!

Samantha and Petra's shoes come complete with spy glasses!

Mrs Peck came to try on a few shoes.  Here she is trying on Igor's flipper shoes.  They'll be perfect when it rains when she is on Road Patrol Duty!

We had to Refelct on our shoes.

What a great Tech Thursday... Thanks Giraffes 2!

TECH THURSDAY

Today we received a letter from the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  Their bridge got washed away in a flood last week and they need our help to build a new one.  They certainly asked the right people ... we were hooked!

First we watched the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, just to refresh our memories ...

Here's the Criteria we had to meet:

·        Your bridge need to be able to hold us (we weigh about the same as three maths teddies)
·        It must be able to stand up by itself
·        It must be creative (we love creative things)
·        It must be able to stretch over our river which is 30cm wide (you might need your teacher to show you how wide that it)

Next we WONDERED what we could do to help the Billy Goats Gruff.  So we decided to complete a brainstorm sheet...

After that we decided we needed to EXPLORE how bridges are built so we watched You Tube clips on which bridges are the strongest.

We wrote notes on our EXPLORE sheet.

We used these ideas when we came up with our plan...

Now it was time to ACT.
We worked together to make some amazing bridges for the Billy Goats...

We had to test that our bridge was strong enough to hold 3 Maths Teddies
(that how much the Goats weigh)
Sean and Alex's group, tested their bridge.  It was hold enough to hole Sean!

Once or bridges were finished we had to complete a REFLECT sheet....

And we got to share our bridges with our friends.
We were able to REFLECT on whose bridge met the Billy Goats Gruff Success Criteria...

We had great fun today and we are super pleased we were able to help the Three BIlly Goats Gruff.
