THINKING CHALLENGES IN MATHS
This week Mrs Lunn has given us some thinking challenges to do in Maths.
On Monday we has a problem about cookies. We had 10 cookies and some were chocolate and some were plain. We had to work out all the possibilities of how many of each biscuit we could have.
On Tuesday, we had to draw a picture of a snowman. It had to be made out of 16 circles.
On Wednesday, we had to draw a friend for Robot. It had to have a square, an oval, a triangle and a star included in it's design. Here are a few photos of us in thinking action!

Some of the kids also made a maths game for us to play. Here they are telling us all about it.

PLACE VALUE CARD CHALLENGE!
We had loads of fun at Maths today. We are learning all about place value. Today Mrs Lunn made us a game to practise our place value knowledge.
First we picked three cards (no picture cards of 10s)
Next we wrote our cards down.
Then we had to figure out what the smallest number we could make from the three cards and then the biggest number.
For example: If our cards were 435 the smallest number would be 345 and the biggest number would be 543.
We were pretty good at this!
We can try this at home. Start with two or three cards and work our way up to four or maybe five cards! Now that's tricky!!!
Good luck

GREATER THAN AND LESS THAN!
Today we learnt about Greater Than and Less Than. We sang this catchy song to help us learn which way the sign goes.
You can help us at home by writing down two numbers and we have to put the correct maths symbol in.

WALT: Say the rule for a pattern
Today in Maths we made patterns with bears, beans and other different objects. We had to make a pattern and out friend had to continue the pattern.
Then we had to say the rule for the pattern.
We had great fun

HARRY's MATHS
Today in Maths some of us were working on using dice patterns to count on from the biggest number to solve equations. Harry has been working so hard at learning this strategy and his hard work is paying off! He was an expert in today's workshop, and he made his friends and Miss Crowther very proud. Way to go Harry!!

WE LOVE MATHS!!
Before school some of us like to practise our learning on the whiteboard tables. Today, Riley and Nate were working on their Maths. Nate was practising skip counting in 2s and he got ALL his numbers around the right way!! Riley is learning to use the tidy numbers strategy and after all his practice this morning he is now able to use this strategy on his own! Way to go Riley!!
These boys are proof that hard work pays off ;-)
NUMBER BONDS!
This week in Maths the Workshop D kids have been learning our number bonds to ten. Once we know these number bonds we can use them to help us to solve more tricky equations. We love writing our number bonds on the whiteboards!

MONEY MONEY MONEY
For the next two weeks we are going to be learning all about Money. Today we had a close look at the different notes and coins that we have in New Zealand. Then we had a go at practising adding our coins together.
You can help us at home by supporting us to count our pocket money, discussing how much things cost and by looking at prices in brochures.
